The best way I’ve found to be bold is to laugh at life, and at ourselves! People are bold when they feel confidence and competent. It’s easier to be bold when you know what you’re doing. I believe everything is either for our entertainment or our education. So, if it’s not fun, I must be learning. But I believe education can and should be entertaining. Maybe if education were more entertaining, more people would be well educated!

Natasha WoodAs this program is about Celebrating Your Potential, I chose to interview this marvelous young woman who has taken her life in hand and is stepping into her power and living her passion of being an actress and as a sit-down comedienne. She had quite the jet-set life in England with a fairytale marriage, quirky parents, siblings, and a hot job as production manager for the BBC. Wood worked as an actor in her early twenties before launching a career behind the camera at the BBC including stints in News, Entertainment, Children’s, Live and Documentaries – but she can’t lift a pint of milk. She can’t walk, either. She has a neuromuscular condition called SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). Sometimes through tears, her story is an empowering, humorous, one-of-a-kind take on life, love and lingerie – with a little disability and love of firemen thrown in – that inspires others to live as large as Wood does on a daily basis.

Live Out LoudAlyson Bruu and Kristine Fichera not only chose to dig deep in late 2004, they decided to take a profound personal disaster and make lemonade from a boatload of lemons. Liv’n Out Loud! Clothing Company was conceived after Alyson almost died following routine surgery. From this near tragedy – with all of its bleak trappings – was launched a refreshing concept in clothing and the human spirit. “We’re the first clothing company that makes comfort, color and the human spirit the essence of the brand”, says Bruu. “It is a simple, but meaningful concept that people all around the world are subscribing to. Our comfortable, inspirational clothing, along with our life-affirming message, is actually encouraging others to make a personal leap of faith in their own lives! It is unreal to witness!”

In Auguest of 2004, co-founder Alyson Bruu went in for routine surgery and nearly died. Devastated by thhis near-death experience, Alyson spiraled into despair. Post-traumatic stress did its dance and monstrous “life” questions raced through and wracked her sould. As light began to creep back into Alyson’s life, she and her partner of 13 years, Kristine Fichera couldn’t help but wonder how many other women were feeling this very same way and how many were in this very same, deeply personal jam of surviving, but not thriving. Both Alyson and Kristine left positions in corporate America to realize their dreams of running a small, important business where lives all around the world would be positively affected by their efforts.
